Job vacancies at GSDRC

Are you an early- or mid- career researcher with excellent communications skills? We are looking for two research fellows with a background in social development or governance to join our team at the University of Birmingham. These exciting and unusual roles involve conducting desk-based research and analysis for policymakers, and offer a great opportunity for those who wish to progress further in policy-relevant academic research.

GSDRC researchers are constantly engaged with current development issues, work closely with major international development agencies, and are directly involved in informing and influencing international policy and practice. The GSDRC links academic experts with people working in donor agencies and government policy departments. GSDRC researchers carry out desk-based research and analysis in response to requests from the UK government (DFID), Australian government (DFAT), the European Commission, and other clients. Requests can cover a wide range of governance, social development, conflict, or humanitarian topics.

Researchers are responsible for delivering high quality, policy relevant research within short timeframes. This involves quickly understanding and clarifying clients’ needs, getting to grips with new subjects and issues, consulting a wide range of experts, carrying out Internet and library searches, and writing clear, comprehensive reports. Research outputs typically take the form of short literature reviews, but longer analytical papers are also commissioned by our clients.

Application deadline: 6 October 2015
