How can continuous reflection and learning help tackle climate change in the context of wider development challenges? This e-book shares the knowledge and insights from two years of shared learning among DFID staff, IDS and other external experts through the Learning Hub programme. It aims to support ongoing learning by those inside and outside DFID – no matter what their country, context or level of personal expertise.
The e-book’s five sections support the reader to reflect on different aspects of climate change and development in relation to their own work. The sections can be read individually and in any order. They are:
- Organisation: relates individual climate change learning to the existing organisational structure and learning processes.
- Change: shares some Learning Hub answers to the question ‘what makes addressing climate change different from business-as-usual in development?’
- Goals: details the implications of addressing climate change and delivering current and future progress in tackling poverty.
- Context: shows why understanding the specific institutional and political context is critical for determining opportunities and constraints for delivering on climate change.
- Focus: maps out the types of analysis, relationships and interventions needed for moving towards a development agenda that is both low carbon and climate resilient.
The Learning Hub for Low Carbon Climate Resilient Development linked internal DFID knowledge with external expertise through reflection and joint problem solving on climate change and development. The Hub was structured around four themed learning cycles:
- Approaches to Planning for Climate Change
- Tackling Poverty in a Changing Climate
- Low Carbon Energy and Development
- Climate Change in Difficult Environments.
The e-book includes links to further Learning Hub resources (Bridging Papers, Learning Notes, Case Study Notes, Briefing Notes and Research Papers).
