Social Protection and Resilience in Pakistan

Helpdesk Report
  • Iffat Idris
December 2024

Question

How effective have social protection programmes in Pakistan been in building resilience among the chronic and transient poor?

Focus on the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

Summary

This K4DD Rapid Evidence Review review looks at the effectiveness of Benazir Income Support Programme in building resilience among the chronic and transient poor in Pakistan.

It draws on a mixture of academic and grey literature, the latter largely reports by international development organizations/government. The available literature does not distinguish between chronic and transient poverty; there is a strong focus on women, but little on persons with disabilities.
